Style and Tone

“Think of it this way, if you're six feet under, then the only way is up. You don't need to dig yourself a deeper hole.”

Threshold is set in a reality where every system is geared toward supporting your ascension. How does it feel to face your failures and regrets? How does it feel to be watched as you do so? How does it feel to live in a place designed to be temporary?

The tone of Threshold is intended as dark: it is set in a half-decaying city where the awareness of death is on everyone's periphery. The secrets that you hold close to your chest are begging to be made public as you labour toward ascension. Not only that, but your private shames are being tempted out as you enter a snake den; the depths that some folk will go to in order to trip you up (or satisfy your vice) are depraved (and outlined in the CAT policy).

We intend to play with themes of regret, shame, temptation and hope, and to explore the politics and personal relationships that come about in this afterlife. As GMs, you can expect us to manipulate, lie and to press on your character's unfinished business. In the face of our world, we look forward to seeing what choices you make and what impact they have…
